I See These Floral Dresses Every Time I Log On to Instagram
Fashion is obsessed with nostalgia. Right now, more so than ever, it’s clear that we’re looking backward more than forward. I’d say this is the result of a future marred by a pandemic, but that’s not so. Case in point: Vintage prints, and in particular vintage-print dresses, have been gaining traction for some time. From Prada’s S/S 19 collection that celebrated its classic “ugly” prints to Gucci’s ’70s-rooted aesthetic, there’s been a steady build-up of this trend in our wardrobes for a while.
You need only glance at Instagram for a good test of whether a trend is really popular. For me, the vintage, or I should say, vintage-style, floral dress is huge in summer 2020. Every time I log on to the app (which is more than I care to admit), I find someone else I follow wearing the aforementioned-style frock. There’s Nicole Ocran’s puff-sleeve dress from ASOS, Emma Thatcher in a dress from new brand Springtime in Brooklyn, and then Erica Davies wearing one of my favourites by Dodo Bar Or—an oversize, almost muumuu-style dress in that classic brown-and-orange bold print we associate with the ’70s.
I don’t think there are any rules about wearing this look. Just waft around your home in the dress safe in the knowledge that you’ll feel utterly fabulous, even if you’re just at home watching Netflix.
